In our fourth episode we have an interview with Brian Duckett from Howarth Franchising. Brian has spent the last twenty years as a franchisee, franchisor and a consultant. He is now a sought-after advisor to companies looking to franchise their business. We have our regular Franchise UK Update with Nell and we talk about running a business blog with David Bell from Sugar Web Development.
Over 80 per cent of those wanting to start their own business should consider taking up a franchise rather than starting a new business from scratch, says former Dragons Den panellist Rachel Elnaugh. While it is brilliant that following the success of business shows like The Apprentice and Dragons Den, 17 million people in the UK are reportedly thinking of starting their own business, the sad fact is that two thirds of these are statistically headed for failure within two years. Franchising offers a much lower risk of cutting your teeth in business for those just starting out. (Making Money, November 2007)
In our third episode we have an interview with John Pratt, a Senior Partner in the specialist franchise legal firm Hamilton Pratt. We have our regular Franchise UK Update with Nell and we talk about having the right mind-set for self-employment with Laura.
In our second episode we have an interview with Mark Scott, the Franchise Development Director for Natwest Bank. Mark talks about finding funding for your new franchise and the role a bank plays. We have our regular Franchise UK Update with Nell and we start up a new “Practical Hints & Tips” section with Laura Harvey-Smith. Hope you enjoy it!
For our first episode we’ve interviewed the Managing Director of Auditel UK, Chris Allison. Chris has kindly agreed to sponsor our show and we thought we’d get him in to chat on our first episode. I have a little bit to say about my background and Nell, my co-host, has some franchise news. Enjoy the show!

My name is Ed Brewer and I’ve been involved with franchising in the UK for 3 years. Before getting involved with franchising, I ran my own financial services business for 6 years. I’ve been an employer, employee, self-employed and a franchisee.
When I first came across podcasts I looked for business related shows. I loved the UK one’s that I found like SmallBizPod and Mind Your Own Business. Having heard some of these great shows I felt that there was an opportunity to talk about franchising. Its a growing industry in the UK, definitely a serious option for anyone considering self-employment.
